Mission
of Friendship
Mission of Friendship or Mission de Amistad is the cooperative relationship between the Archdiocese of Yucatan and the Diocese of Erie.
Since its beginnings 1971, Mission of Friendship has assisted the Yucatecan people through various agricultural, educational and medical projects. And the Archdiocese of Yucatan has assisted the Erie Diocese by sending priests, seminarians and sisters to minister to the Hispanic
community in the Erie Diocese.
Mission of Friendship coordinates and provides volunteer staff for a variety of projects that serve the poor.

Mission of Friendship.
- Mobile and Permanent Clinics
The mobile clinic visits outlying villages and a permanent clinic is located in the poor neighborhood of Tecoh. These provide inexpensive doctor's exams, medicines, prenatal care, well baby checks, a milk and vitamin program, training of village health workers, and instruction in first aid, hygiene and nutrition.
- Little Friends Day Care Center
This center provides care for about 35 children ranging in age from six weeks to school age whose mothers must work to support their family.
- New Life Family Housing
Safe adequate temporary housing is provided for homeless women with children.
- Amigos Sponsorship Program
In cooperation with Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, a sponsor is linked with a needy child from the Yucatan. The sponsor helps to provide the child with an education, food, clothing and medical care.
- Newsletter
- Library and Tutoring Programs
These programs promote learning and literacy among impoverish school age children by providing reading materials, health education, English classes and enrichment activities.
- Women’s Literacy
Illiterate women are taught arithmetic, reading writing, and other life skills.
- Sister-Parish Program
This program encourages exchanges between a parish in Yucatan and one in the Erie Diocese. A variety of projects, open to the creativity of the participating parishes, enables each community to share spiritually, culturally and economically.
- Home for Street Boys
Mission volunteers provide assistance, supervision and loving care to boys in a local shelter.
- Refuge for Disabled
Ciudad Vicentina is a home for the elderly and others with disabilities administered by the Sisters of Charity. Here Mission volunteers assist with nursing, physical therapy and general care.
